China is now finishing its second decade of transformation from an ideologically isolated
society to one that the Chinese themselves proclaim is "reforming and opening up to
the outside world." During these years, China has vaulted into a position of one of
the most influential countries in the world. In order to meet their modernization goals,
Chinese educational institutions are in great need of foreign teachers and experts. Every
year ERRC receives many more requests from universities for teachers of English (and many
other fields) than it can possibly fill.
We thank God for these open doors for Christians from the West to serve the educated
Chinese who will be the future leaders of China. Our teachers live on campus and build
relationships with students and colleagues in and out of the classroom. Their lives are
simple but filled with the joy of an enriching cross-cultural experience.

A BA or BS in any subject will qualify you to teach English. A Ph.D. and work experience are
required for those wishing to teach subjects other than English. Specialized English
teacher-training is suggested and can be arranged with ERRC's help. A strong
Christian commitment and a servant attitude are essential.
All teachers going to China to teach should expect to raise support. Individual budgets
are developed with help of ERRC staff to determine individual needs. For the first year,
a single teacher may expect to raise around $7,000. Couples and families may expect to
raise from $14-22,000. This includes cost of airfare, insurance, ERRC training, and
other start-up costs.
